My wife has had this recipe for years and it was given to her by a lady in Portsmouth when we had our Miniature Schnauzer Nessa. Unfortunately, Nessa passed away a few years ago, but Tracy has carried on making these, not just for our own dogs, but for friends and family too. She also helps out on Charity Days for Animals In Need, and makes these to sell. Needless to say, they are very popular, and gone within a few minutes.

Liver Cake Dog Treat recipe
Tracy’s Liver Cakes

When Tracy makes these, both Hudson and Nelly know exactly what is going on, and stick by her side in the kitchen. It is funny to watch, as Tracy is a Vegetarian, and cannot stand the smell of Liver !!!! Just goes to show what you will do for your dogs.

So here goes for the recipe:

INGREDIENTS

8 oz Liver (260 grams) (Preferably Pigs Liver)

4 oz (130 grams) Self Raising Flour

2 Eggs

The cloves from half a head of garlic

METHOD

Put the liver in a blender and liquidise.

Add the eggs and garlic and liquidise further until smooth.

Gradually add the flour until you have a sponge like consistency.

Put the mixture into a greased swiss roll type baking tray and place into a preheated oven at 150 – 180 degrees C. (gas mark 4)

Cook for approximately 45 minutes checking to ensure it doesn’t burn.

Remove and allow to cool.

Once cool, you can cut it into bite size chunks and freeze. Left in the fridge it will last about a week.

VOILA !!!

There are lots of recipes for dogs, and these days, there are so many different recipe books to choose from. There are literally tons of them on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. There are books for different breeds and different age groups. I have narrowed down a few here. Feel free to check them out.

I hope you manage to make the Liver Treats and spoil your loved ones. If not, then why not check out some other recipes and gives your furry kids a treat.

If you have any recipes you would like to share, and for me to post, please feel free to send them to me. I will dedicate a page to them all.

All the best

David
